'It Wasn't Meant To Be' Is A Bullshit Excuse
- Mille Larsen •2 mins read
I see this lousy advice given all the time. People console each other with this nonsense when they fail. They console themselves when they want to give up. The use it as an excuse to others when they quit. "Oh well, it just wasn't meant to be."
Bullshit.
Rocks weren't meant to be stacked on top of each other, but we have Stonehenge. Clay wasn't meant to be a building material, but we have the Colosseum. Mankind wasn't meant to fly, but we rule the air.
It wasn't meant to be. So what? That's no reason not to do it. And it certainly doesn't excuse anyone giving up.
Maybe you were born in an English-speaking country, but you want to speak Mandarin. Maybe you love Spanish, but you just can't get the hang of verb conjugations. Maybe you've spent years working on your German but you just can't seem to get it together.
Maybe you have a busy schedule. Maybe you "don't have an ear for language." Maybe you have an enemy who mocks your every mistake. Maybe no one believes in you.
Maybe it wasn't meant to be. So what? Do it anyway. Never give up.
